BMW just announced two different voluntary recalls of the equal problem found on its 151,000 units sold in the Stateside. The problems arise due to defective fuel pumps that might decrease engine performance and the worst scenario is losing of power support to the steering as well as brake systems.
The first recall is meant to certain BMW cars which came equipped with twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engines, includes 2007-2010 335i model, 2008–2010 135i model, 535i and X6 xDrive35i Sports Activity Coupes model, as well as 2009 – 2010 Z4 Roadster sDrive35i. These affected models will require replacement of the high-pressure fuel pump nor a software update.
BMW said that approximately 130,000 units are possibly impacted from this recall
BMW said in a statement :
“Symptoms include long-crank engine starting times along with the illumination of the “Service Engine Soon” light. In certain cases, the driver may experience reduced engine performance in a Safe Mode accompanied by a tone and the illumination of the “Engine Malfunction” light.”
The next recall from BMW affects around 20,800 units of the 2008 X5 Sports Activity Vehicles which came equipped with normally-aspirated inline six-cylinder engines. BMW said that if the fuel pump suffers from a failure, the engine will halt running and the driver might lose power assist for the steering as well as brakes despite both the steering and the brakes remain operational. The recall would need a fuel pump replacement too.
