Audi just updated its A1 supermini lineup with the Audi A1 Sportback five-door model that is scheduled to come in European showrooms by the beginning of 2012.
It shares the same length and wheelbase measurements as its three-door sibling, it has 3.95 metres of length and 2.47 metres of wheelbase. However, the five-door model is slightly taller and wider than the siblings (add extra 6mm in both width and height to extend interior space). Furthermore, the boot area is 270 liters (9.53 cu ft) and can be extended to 920 liters (32.49 cu ft) if only the split rear seat back is folded down.
Engine Options for the European markets are three turbocharged petrol and three turbocharged diesel engines. The gasoline lineup is including a 1.2-liter TFSI engine rated at 86HP with a combined fuel consumptions of 5.1lt / 100 km (46.1 US mpg), and a couple of 1.4-liter TFSI engines developing 122HP and 185HP, respectively.
Meanwhile, the diesel lineup are including two 1.6-liter TDI engines developing 90HP and 105HP respectively, with combined fuel consumptions of 3.8 /lt 100 km (61.9 US mpg) on average. There is also a 2.0-liter TDI engine with 143HP that allows the A1 Sportback to complete 0-100 km/h sprint in just 8.5 seconds and capable of returning a fuel consumption of 4.1/lt100 km (57.4 US mpg).
While you wait until next spring to see the Sportback A1 reaches European showrooms, you can prepare at least €16,950 (in Germany) for the 1.2 TFSI petrol model, and at least €19,050 for the 1.6 TDI 90HP model.
