Almost a couple of years after the Telsa Model S was revealed, Tesla has stated the first cars will be shipped in mid-2012 for North America markets and late 2012 in Europe. The first 1,000 units will be a specia edition "Signature Series" that come with exclusive badging and "an extensive complement of choices." They will be powered by a 42 kWh lithium-ion battery which delivers power to an electric motor that allows the Model S to speed up from 0-60 mph in just 5.6 seconds with a maximum speed of 125 mph (201 km/h), and can travel up to 300 miles with a single charge, with optional 260 and 160 mile batteries will be available later.
The Tesla Model S price will begin at 57,000 USD for the 160 mile range model, while for the 230 mile range models customers will need to pay an extra 10,000 USD, while the Model S 300M 300 mile choice is 20,000 USD above the base price.
