Rumor is going around indicating that Toyota will be adding another version to its Prius family. The new version is not coupe or station wagon, but a pickup truck.
If the rumor is real, then people would have some kind of a hybrid pickup. A possibility of resurrecting the Advanced Breakthrough Aero Truck (A-BAT) hybrid pickup concept that is already introduced at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show.
Carter also add that a pickup truck could also join Prius family as long as it meets the criteria to have high mpg and low environment impact. Just keep in mind that nothing is decided at this point.
Toyota is exploring the idea to make trucks more fuel efficient, which the A-BAT Pickup concept uses a makes use of a hybrid drivetrain system as well as unibody construction to offer an aerodynamic, compact shape. Toyota had paused the idea of creating a new truck due to inconsistent market trend, now it is reviving the idea again.
Carter said :
“The pickup truck has been very volatile over the past few years, we’re trying to understand what pickup truck consumers are going to want in the future. Right now with the Tacoma in the compact truck market, we have nearly a 45 percent market share. The consumer says for that truck market that they still want a rugged body-on-frame. We’re open and studying it.”
