Volvo just announced its plans to showcase a "virtually production ready" V60 plug-in hybrid to the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in March. And if Volvo makes it to market, it will both the first gasdiesel-electric production model from Volvo and the first all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid to be sold in the stateside.
The V60 hybrid will basically use two separate drivetrains: a 215-HP turbodiesel 2.4-liter five-cylinder up front and a 70-HP electric motor attached between the rear wheels. A 12 kWh lithium-ion battery pack will be powering the rear electric motor. The V60 hybrid is touted to be able to reach up to 31 miles on electricity alone.
